Why Do I Have to Be a Warrior?
One day during a session, a young woman looked at me with tears in her eyes and asked,
“Ms. Lea… why do I have to be a warrior? I’m tired. I’m not weak—I just need to rest. I don’t want to be a warrior.”
That moment stopped me.
Because I realized that we were seeing the same word through two very different lenses.
She saw ‘Warrior’ as someone who has to keep fighting.
I saw ‘Warrior’ as someone who has already fought and continues to stand.
Being a warrior means you have overcome something that tried to break you.
It means you kept moving—even when you moved slowly.
It means you didn’t give up, even when giving up would have been easier.
Not everyone has the same battles. People experience trauma, healing, and life differently.
But waking up each day and choosing to move forward? That is a warrior.
I am proud of every person who enters my office, logs into telehealth, or picks up the phone.
Because many people know they need help but find countless excuses not to take the first step.
You did.
And let me be clear:
Warriors need rest too.
Jesus withdrew to quiet places to pray and restore Himself.
Rest is not weakness—it is holy.
Scripture:
“Come with me by yourselves to a quiet place and get some rest.” – Mark 6:31
“My Presence will go with you, and I will give you rest.” – Exodus 33:14
